Our History

The Institute is a not-for-profit institution established in 1974 to support the Bahamas’ financial services industry development. It was the idea of Mr. T. Baswell Donaldson, the first Governor of The Central Bank of the Bahamas, to insure that professional standards are met within Financial Services Organisations. We have earned a strong international reputation for our comprehensive suite of high-quality, industry relevant and cutting-edge training and  education programmes

Ryan Pinder is a Partner in the Firm of Graham Thompson.​ Ryan’s practice includes advice in the area of trusts, investment funds, and securities law and utilizing his experience with private and public offerings, capital markets, regulatory and compliance advice, and banking and financial services law.  

 

Ryan is sought after for his expertise in bespoke financial services solutions and planning for high net worth individuals and families, and their associated companies and businesses throughout the world, bringing a keen understanding on structuring options for clients in different jurisdictions and with cross border issues and experiences. 

 

Ryan served as the Minister of Financial Services and Trade in the Cabinet of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas from May 2012 to January 2015.  He also has served as a Member of Parliament from February 2010 to May 2016, representing the constituency of Elizabeth in Nassau. 

 

Ryan, as Minister of Financial Services and Trade, played an integral role in positioning the Bahamas as a leading financial services center.  His experiences included the development of new legislation for products and structuring opportunities and the negotiation of the Bahamas’ position with respect to transparency matters such as FATCA and OECD Common Reporting Standard, among other policy achievements. 

Ryan was the Minister who oversaw the development and enactment of SMART Fund 007 as well as the Investment Condominium (ICON) legislation, two groundbreaking achievements for The Bahamas in the investment fund arena.
