Due to the recent enactment by the government of the Bahamas for all public and private sector personnel to be qualified practitioners; this package has been developed by Bangor University for the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services (BIFS).

 

The workshop is designed to respond to the training request on the Bahamas Procurement Act (2023) and operational procurement matters.

 

A successful face-to-face workshop took place in Nassau in July 2023; as a result, The Bahamas Institute of Financial Services and Bangor Business School Executive Education will host an online workshop during the week of March 18th – 22nd, 2024.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

On completion of this training programme, delegates will be able to:

 

  • Appreciate the importance of Public Procurement and its role in achieving Good Governance for the Bahamas, including how private and public institutions in the country can use Public Procurement to achieve their mission.

  • Develop accurate knowledge of the objectives, main principles and procedural rules in the Bahamas Public Procurement Act 2023.

  • Understand how to develop a procurement strategy in line with the Act.

  • Identify the various risks that can occur in the procurement process and evaluate the implication of those risks for suppliers, public institutions, and other stakeholders.

  • Design procurement processes, documentations and systems (for example e-procurement tools) to minimise procurement risks for their organisation and suppliers.

  • Utilise procurement risk management strategies  and risk  mitigation techniques within a scenario-based Public Procurement process;

  • Understand the diverse roles people play in good Public Procurement practice and the implications for economic development and the Good Governance.

  • Understand how to manage external and internal stakeholders involved in the Public Procurement system in the Bahamas.

  • Analyse typical drivers of procurement change in organisations and how change management tools and techniques can help to successfully manage procurement change.

  • Understand the importance of professional ethics and the codes of conduct in Public Procurement

  • Identify the different systems, institutions, and committees relevant to procurement in the Bahamas, including the role of different stakeholders in these systems.

  • Utilise Supplier Relationship Management techniques to develop appropriate supply chain strategies in different Public Procurement situations.

  • Analyse various sustainable and social considerations that can be incorporated in Public Procurement, and the extent to which these can be accommodated within the regulatory framework in the Bahamas.

  • Appraise examples of approaches used to incorporate sustainable procurement and social agendas in Public Procurement in other jurisdictions.

  • Develop template provisions that can be used to embed sustainable and social considerations in public tenders in the Bahamas.

Delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance jointly branded by Bangor University and BIFS. The workshop will contribute towards 12 hours of Continuous Professional Development.
