Course Description
The Certificate in Green and Sustainable Finance is a global benchmark qualification designed to equip finance professionals with the knowledge and skills to align finance with sustainability goals, including those outlined in the Paris Agreement.
The qualification is designed to develop learners’ knowledge, understanding and ability to apply the key principles and core practice of green and sustainable finance. This includes increasing awareness of climate change and its impacts, climate and environmental risks, the evolution of green and sustainable financial products and services, and the role of the finance sector in supporting the transition to a low-carbon
This course enables learners to:

Understand the science of climate change and its impacts.

Explore climate risks, environmental sustainability, and emerging risks.

Learn about green and sustainable financial products and services in banking, investment, and insurance.

Recognise the role of finance professionals in supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Develop practical knowledge of how regulators, policymakers, institutions and finance professionals can support the mainstreaming of green and sustainable finance.
The qualification also contributes to the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma pathway. By completing this and three additional qualifications, learners enhance their banking knowledge, understanding, and skills and achieve a globally recognised professional designation as well as the Associate Chartered Banker Diploma, advancing their careers and gaining valuable industry recognition.
The qualification also contributes towards the Diploma in Sustainable Banking (DipSB), the Professional Banker Diploma, and the Diploma in Green and Sustainable Finance.
Course Outline
This qualification is structured into four focused units:

What is meant by ‘green’ and ‘sustainable’ finance, the key factors that underpin the science of climate change, and the ways in which the finance sector can support the transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy

Explains the role of a range of key players and policy and regulatory frameworks in aligning finance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the importance of monitoring, measuring and reporting impacts, outcomes, alignment and flows of finance

Examines the nature and importance of key climate, environmental and emerging sustainability risks, and how these may be managed

Describes how different types of financial services strategies, activities, products and services (including banking, investment and insurance) can support the development of green and sustainable finance, the transition to a low-carbon economy, and the quality and functioning of the natural environment and natural systems

Describes the role of financial technology in supporting the growth of green and sustainable finance

Explains the steps that regulators, policymakers, institutions, organisations and Green and Sustainable Finance Professionals can take to support the mainstreaming of green and sustainable finance.

Throughout the programme, learners will also develop key professional skills including analytical thinking, critical thinking, commercial awareness, digital literacy, ethical and professional judgement, innovation, problem solving, risk management, strategic thinking and professionalism.
