Course Description:

This beginner-level course is designed for banking and financial professionals who need to develop foundational Spanish communication skills specific to the financial services sector. It emphasizes vocabulary, expressions, and dialogues relevant to everyday banking situations, focusing on customer service and essential banking functions.

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Acquire basic Spanish language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Gain confidence using Spanish in common banking and customer service scenarios.

  • Develop industry-specific vocabulary used in financial institutions.

  • Learn cultural norms and professional etiquette in Spanish-speaking environments.

 

 

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

  1. Greet and interact with Spanish-speaking customers politely and effectively.

  2. Use basic banking terms and phrases to describe common financial transactions.

  3. Ask and answer questions regarding customer accounts, services, and identification.

  4. Complete simple banking forms and interpret commonly used Spanish banking documents.

Unit 2: Banking Basics

  • Key financial vocabulary (account types, currencies, services)

  • Introducing yourself and your role

  • Asking and responding to customer needs

 

Unit 3: Common Transactions

  • Deposits and withdrawals

  • Balance inquiries

  • Opening and closing accounts

 

Unit 4: Identification and Documentation

  • Personal identification terms

  • Forms and documents used in banking

  • Addressing issues like lost cards or account updates

 

Unit 5: Customer Service & Cultural Sensitivity

  • Handling common inquiries and complaints

  • Culturally appropriate phrases and gestures

  • Spanish in different countries: accents, terms, and etiquette

  • Written Assignments (Forms, Emails, etc.) – 20%

  • Final Oral Exam (Customer Interaction Simulation) – 35%
